At a glance
Proton Pass is a password manager with hide-my-email aliases built in — powered under the hood by SimpleLogin, which Proton acquired. It's a slick pairing: generate an alias right where you generate the password. The trade-offs are the usual Proton ones: a Proton account is mandatory, the free tier caps how many aliases you get (10, as of this writing), and unlimited aliases plus custom domains sit behind a paid plan.
emailforward.xyz doesn't try to be your password manager. It's a standalone alias service with no cap, no account, and delivery channels Proton doesn't offer: each alias can fan out to up to six destinations — email, Telegram chats, or webhooks — with a public REST API to automate it.

Choose emailforward.xyz if…
- You want unlimited aliases without a paid plan or a free-tier cap.
- You want Telegram or webhook delivery — Proton forwards to email only.
- You don't want yet another account, password and ecosystem.
- You want a custom alias domain without paying for it.
- You want a REST API and per-alias rules, history, tags and expiry you can manage from any browser.
- You route aliases to more than one destination.
Choose Proton Pass if…
- You want aliases and passwords managed in one tool with one autofill flow.
- You're already in the Proton ecosystem (Mail, VPN, Drive) and value one vendor with a strong privacy pedigree.
Verdict
Proton Pass is a good password manager with aliases as a bundled convenience, and Proton's privacy credentials are real. If you want one Proton subscription to cover everything, it's a coherent choice.
As an alias service on its own merits, though, the free tier is capped, custom domains cost money, there's no public API for aliases, and delivery means email only. emailforward.xyz gives you the alias half uncapped and free — with Telegram, webhooks, multiple recipients and an API — and leaves the password manager choice to you.
